Intern Supervision

Qualified Supervision for Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns

Models of Supervision

As with theories for therapy, there are models for good clinical supervision. I employ several models including the Developmental Model, Cognitive-Behavioral, Strength-Based, and Person-Centered. I believe this blend of models helps support the new clinician based on their clinical level from beginning to advanced while enhancing their skills and personal qualities. As a Qualified Supervisor I pledge to give my interns my undivided attention, respect, and flexibility.

Private vs. Employer

Did you know you can have more than one supervisor? You may be wondering why you should pay for a private supervisor versus the one offered by your employer. Some choose to have an outside supervisor to help supplement their experience offered by an employer. However, some feel it can be a conflict of interest when your supervisor is also your co-worker or boss. Also employers may have difficulty devoting enough time or may not have the background you wish to specialize. This is a personal choice but worth doing a little research on your options.

What to expect

Congrats on your intern status! You are about to embark on a very important journey towards licensure. It’s always important to familiarize yourself with the expectations of the Florida Board
but also those of your qualified supervisor. Some qualities I look for when interviewing candidates are:
-devotion to 1 hr weekly supervision
-will obtain malpractice insurance
-employed with face-to-face therapy
-strong sense of ethics
-motivation and enthusiasm!
